ABOUT

Larry Fessenden and Glenn McQuaid bring you audio dramas inspired by the vintage radio shows of Alfred Hitchcock and Orson Welles: Radio Plays for a Digital Age. Conceived during a fog-drenched car ride with nothing outside the windshield but a horizon-less void, TALES FROM BEYOND THE PALE delves into the twisted minds of new and established horror auteurs to present singular stories of the uncanny; stories that will chill and delight fans of the macabre.

Launched on-line on October 26 2010 as a ten episode series of stand-alone studio-recorded audio dramas, TALES Season 1 was released a year later as a lavishly illustrated CD box set.

Season 2 launched October 12, 2012 as a four week series of live performances recorded in New York’s down-town performance venue, Dixon Place. The season was released as a CD box set a year later along with an in-depth behind-the-scenes documentary by Craig Macneill (Channel Zero).

In the years that followed, TALES was invited to perform live at venues across the US from Los Angeles to New York’s Lincoln Center and NPR’s The Green Space.

A third season was launched on-line October 16, 2016 with 10 new studio-recorded tales featuring old collaborators and new, including Stuart Gordon and Eric Red. This time, the physical release was comprised of an illustrated booklet and a USB stick containing the audio.

The Season 4 booklet and USB, released October 13, 2017, was comprised of 10 live tales that had been performed since 2012 in association with The Stanley Film Festival, The Overlook Film Festival, The Fantasia Film Festival in Montreal , Spectrevision in Los Angeles and two double bills that had been presented at Lincoln Center in NYC.

On October 10, 2019, TALES FROM BEYOND THE PALE The Podcast was launched, featuring weekly postings of all existing tales as well as special events and premiers, including a virtual 10 Year Anniversary Party October 27, 2020. After 47 Episodes, the Podcast is on hiatus, but still garners new listeners on Spotify, iTunes, and Google.

October 2021 will see the release of 9 TALES BY McQUAID AND FESSENDEN (VOL I), a book featuring 9 scripts and essays about the work.
